Representasi sosial tentang citra guru dalam cerpen “Guru” karya Putu Wijaya

Abstract

In this analysis, the author utilizes the semiotic concept developed by Roland Barthes to examine a short story entitled "Guru" by Putu Wijaya. This research uses descriptive qualitative-interpretive research. The approach used in this research is an objective approach where the object studied is the literary work itself. The focus of this research is on the meaning of Roland Barthes' theoretical codes. Data collection was carried out through sequential reading and note-taking techniques. The various signs in Barthes' five codes include cultural code, hermeneutic code, semic code, symbolic code, and proaretic code or action code. In this analysis, 36 lexias were found which had meaning in each lexia, including 9 cultural codes, 6 hermeneutic codes, 5 semic codes, 7 symbolic codes, and 9 proaretic codes. There are implied meanings and explicit meanings in each lexia. The meaning or message that can be taken from this short story is that there is still a low social view of the teaching profession, because it is considered a hard job but does not get wages commensurate with the hard work.
